The goal of this study was to gain a better understanding of how accessible MOUD is for pregnant people who are incarcerated. 2,885 surveys were sent to jails in the U.S. (100% of U.S. jails verified by the National Jails Compendium) and 836 surveys were returned and used for this study (29% of those sent). Of the jails that responded, 60.3% reported MOUD was available during pregnancy. 31.9% of jails initiated and continued MOUD for pregnant people, and 28.3% continued MOUD but did not initiate it.
Bottom Line: Of the jails that responded to the survey, only 31.9% offered both initiation and continuation of MOUD for pregnant people and 28.3% only offered continuation.
