This study surveyed prisons in states where OUD overdose rates were higher than the national average regarding their MOUD access for those incarcerated. 23 states were invited to participate, with 21 participating (583 prisons). All states had at least one prison that provided MOUD, however, only 39% of the total number of prisons provided at least one form of MOUD. Only 7% provided all 3 types. 61% of prisons provided no MOUD.
Bottom Line: In states where the overdose rates were higher than the national average, it was found that 39% of prisons provided at least one form of MOUD, only 7% provided all 3, and 61% of prisons provided no MOUD.
